Vocal cords: Your vocal cords don't really change when you train your voice to sing. Singers learn techniques to control their vocal cords very precisely, and support their breath with their diaphragm. Improper singing technique, though, can damage vocal cords, leading to polyps which can affect a singer's career (Julie Andrews, Steven Tyler -Aerosmith, and Adele have all had polyp surgeries).
