Vaginal spotting: Brown vaginal discharge is old blood and tissue from the lining of the uterus. It probably doesn't mean anything. Many young women can have unexpected spotting for a few days from time to time. As long as it isn't very heavy with large clots, and if you otherwise feel fine, you can give it a couple days. It will probably straighten out next cycle.
