ANATOMY: Bone and ligament are two totally different things anatomically. Ligaments are soft tissue structures holding any two bones in place, like a piece of rope, and can be torn apart in an injury. Bone forms the structure of a part, like a foot, leg, or arm. These can also be broken in two or more pieces in an injury. Bone is seen on x-ray; ligaments need an MRI to be visualized.
