If you are prescribed an antidepressant does that mean you have to be on it for the rest of your life or can u go off it forever?

It depends upon: Lots of things. Such as severity of the illness, functional impairment from the illness, how long you’ve been ill, how many times you’ve been ill, how well you do on the medication, how well you wean off of it in the future if that’s what you and your MD decide eventually, what the med is treating, etc. There are numerous factors that go into such a decision.
