Do tell your doctor.: I'm wondering if he is mouth-breathing, which might mean upper airway obstruction (as from large adenoids). Obstructive sleep apnea, if present, is important to diagnose and treat. An ENT specialist might help. As for his asthma treatment, what's in that nebulizer? If he is using albuterol alone, his regimen needs to change. Also, 5 year olds can more easily get inhaled meds via MDI/Spacer.
