Unhealthy side...: Any activity that interferes in important functions (work/play) and/or creates distress is unhealthy. There are plenty of health benefits though. However, it can interfere and certainly is not a good replacement for intimacy with a partner. When done compulsively you can actually physically harm yourself. Aim for moderation. Track it, try to slowly reduce frequency, celebrate any progress!
