Not necessarily: Awkward can be difficult but it may not be a problem. If possible, I'll bet that a small smile and head tilt in acknowledgement will avoid a fear reaction. You may or may not know what you're looking for but some talk therapy and CBT to manage behaviors/feelings may be really helpful. Social skills can be learned like other skills.
