Can you lungs just stop working when i breath i pause about every 3-4 breath for just a second then breath again i'm afraid it's going to kill me when i sleep?

This may be a sign: of Sleep apnea. Please ask your PCP about a sleep study. It will check you for apneas or periods of cessation of breaths.

Its normal to: have a pause in your regular breathing pattern, especially if you're thinking about it. Stop worrying. You won't pause in your sleep because you won't be thinking about it. You are not going to die in your sleep.
