My period used to be 7 to 8 days and for several months now it has been 3 days. what can i expect at a doctors visit for this particular problem?

This isn't a problem: Cycles change, and this is in a favorable direction. It is not a marker of any sort of problem. At the visit the doctor may do an exam and run some tests but it is unlikely that they will find anything wrong.
