Bed bug bites: may have no sx's/signs initially except for 2 small skin puncture points. A reaction may show from 1 hr to several days later. It can cause itchy, pink, swollen, lesions w clear center. If hypersensitive blisters may occur. Telltale sign is linear track of lesions from sequential feedings – doesn't always occur. Bites are in areas exposed while sleeping-arms, shoulders, neck & legs.

Typically not: Because bed bugs are visible, they are usually spread from one form of furniture or household item to another. People not locating their hiding place is the main issue. They could be in something someone is carrying, though.

A 39-year-old member asked:
Someone at work has bed bugs, should I treat my cubicle as a precaution?

Dr. Sarah Kohl answered

No need to treat : Bed bugs are a global problem. These pests hitch-hikie from place to place in luggage, etc. The bed bugs don't have a way to be transported from co-worker's house to your cubicle. When traveling check your hotel for small insects the size of an apple seed in the crevices of bedding, baseboards, etc. Keep your luggage off the floor to avoid brining them home. Heat is best way to kill them.

It is often impossible to tell these apart, but bedbugs will often leave a straight line or repeat bites whereas other bugs like mosquitos, fleas, etc. May look scattered.
