Not uncommon: Ovulation while on the pill is actually very common. The pill prevents pregnancy more by preventing the uterus from developing an endometrial lining (where your pregnancy attaches). Its contraceptive effect is due to several factors, decreased cervical mucus, thin endometrial lining, preventing ovulation. Cervical mucus can still develop though.
