If you have one...: 10% of the population will get appendicitis during their life time. There are no know preventative measures. So if you have an appendix you are at risk. Symptoms are of umbilical then RLQ pain, fever, lack of appetite, someone's nausea and vomiting. If you have these, go in to be checked out.

EVERYONE: from the age of about 10 to 80 years of age (with some "unusual cases" beyond the above range), (and the "highest from age 10-19) is "at risk " of getting appendicitis...but John, that risk is quite low and has actually been DECREASING your risk is about 8.6% as outlined in a study be Addias et al Am J Epidemiology 132:5 Hope this helps!
