Depends: In general, MRI is most useful for soft tissues while CT & X-ray are best to image hard tissues such as bone or calcified items of interest. Certainly parts of the jaw can be seen on MRI but it really depends what you're looking for as to whether it or other imaging are more indicated. Often radiologists will ask for both.
