Don't Panic, there: are 3 main types of non-toxic goiter. Worldwide most common cause is iodine def, rare in US. Supplements/inc I in diet may shrink it. In older people in the US multinodular goiter is most common. If no sx's US & bx of any susp nods w tx if nec. Then follow w/US. Hashimoto's (autoimmune) thyroiditis is next. Can cause hypothyroid. Monitor TFT's, tx if nec. If not bothered, mon. If sx's tx exists.
