Treat the cause: Treatment to resolve ear pain depends on the cause. If it is directly related to the ear, as with an external or middle ear infection, then a topical and/or oral antibiotic or anti-fungal is needed. Infection or inflammation in the throat, molars or base of tongue region can present with ear pain. See your primary doctor or ENT specialist.

Pain Assessment: Persistent ear pain can be caused by a number of conditions which usually respond to appropriate treatment. Firstly an ear infection needs to be evaluated by an appropriately trained provider. Otherwise it will require specialty evaluation by a pain medicine or an ear nose and throat physician.

Depends on cause.: You need to find out the cause. Ear pain can be due to ear problems, or non ear problems. See an ENT doc for exam/treatment.
