Change in BM: Narrower stools means there is some inflammation or swelling in the rectum. The sensation that there is still something left behind is called tenesmus. It happens when there is inflammation of the rectum (proctitis). If this doesn't resolve in a couple of days, go see a doctor for an exam. If you see blood in the stool, see a doctor for more testing.
