Some possiblities: cannot say in your particular case, but generally, need to distinguish from the condition (constipation) versus the feeling (needing to go). Any stimulation of the anal area can make someone feel the urge when nothing's there. If something is there, increased hydration, fiber, stool softeners can be helpful in mild temporary constipation.

Hydration and fiber: Drink enough water so that your urine is watery. Eat enough vegetables as you can tolerate. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil.

For constipation: take Senna. Senna is a very safe natural plant product with a wide dosage range. Start by taking 2 tablets at bedtime, if you do not have a comfortable bowel movement (BM) the next day, take 4 tablets the next night. You can continue to increase the dose by 2 tablets every night until it works. It is safe and effective to continue taking the dose that works every night.

Constipation: You can start by drinking plenty of water and increasing fiber in your diet and/or trying foods like prune juice that may help. If worse, you may need to try an over the counter laxative or even try giving yourself an enema, etc. Call your dr. for an evaluation of your constipation so they know all your medical issues and can diagnose and treat your condition. Good luck.

Needs evaluation: You can try stool softeners and/or more fiber. but it is best to check this out. Depending on how long it has been going on and your age, you may need a colonoscopy.
