Hormonal imbalance: is the most common cause of irregular menstrual bleeding, including the spotting you describe. If you're on a hormonal contraceptive and/or if this spotting or irregular bleeding, you should discuss this with your doctor. If you've had intercourse in the past month, I recommend a home pregnancy test as well. Best wishes. Dr. Anne.
