Muscle Spasms: Both drugs are in the benzodiazepine class but Midazolam is short acting and primarily used as a premedication for anesthesia. Diazepam (valium) is a longer acting version that I use for postoperative muscle spasm in the hospital but avoid following discharge due to the addiction potential for this longer acting version. There are other options for movement disorders.
