Dark menstrual blood: At the beginning of your period, the dark blood may be dried blood/tissue left over at the end of the last cycle that didn't get completely expelled from your uterus. Each month, the lining of the uterus sloughs off if you you are not pregnant. That old tissue mixed with blood can appear darker. This is not worrisome.
