Hydronephrosis: Tamsulosin is an alpha blocker that's often used to treat benign prostate hyperplasia, as it tends to relax prostate capsule. 5 alpha reductase inhibitors (5ARIs) such as finasteride & dutasteride are used to shrink prostate over 6mo. Inadequately treated BPH can lead to urinary retention and then to hydronephrosis whereby pressure backs up into kidneys. Best to discuss your concerns w/your doc.
