However, you need to know that spermacides like Encare have a fairly high failure (pregnancy) rate: One in 5 women who use this method will get pregnant each year. Yes, you can: The vaginal spermicide is effective for an hour but by itself, it has a fairly high failure rate plus only mild protection against some std's. You should use this form of contraception AND condoms for a better chance of preventing pregnancy and disease. With normal use, vaginal spermicides have a 29% chance of getting pg. With perfect use, an 18% chance. With the pill you have < 5% chance of pg.
