HERPES HOME RX: Meat tenderizer. Take a teaspoonful of meat tenderizer and add it to a little water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the sore every 2 or 3 hours. This often works in the earliest stages of the cold sore. Ice cubes applied may also work.

Topical lidocaine: You can get topical Lidocaine and it will numb the area temporarily until it heals. Abreva works ok and can shorten outbreak by a day or two. Also, wear sunscreen daily to prevent further outbreaks. L-lysine has helped some also.
