Yes: Amoxicillin will only help control the symptoms. It will not eliminate the infection. Depending on the size and location of the infection, whether there is swelling, and how long it has been there, antibiotics will not relieve all of the pain. For pain, take ibuprofen in addition to the amoxicillin.

For sure: Antibiotics will help control an infection. You need to see your dentist sooner than later.... try to get the appointment moved up.

Infection: Antibiotic will control a tooth infection, not cure it. Abscessed tooth requires root canal treatment or extraction and replacement. If your antibiotic will run out before you can be seen by the Dentist, you must either Han a sooner appointment or have your antibiotic prescription refilled. Pain indicates that the infection is still active.
