See answer: "Sleep Jerks" are a normal sudden muscle contraction(myoclonus) that can occur as you are falling asleep or waking up. Myoclonus at other times can be due to anxiety, exercise, medication side effects, metabolic disturbance and neurological disorders including seizure disorders. If there is no actual "jerk" it's possible you may be having Petit mal absence seizures. See your physician.
