A member asked:

I have my period and something came out, similar to a membrane, on my towel. i've also been using contraceptive pills. what is it and what caused it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mucous plug: That slippery, membranous thing may simply be the mucous plug that collects within the cervix during the weeks leading up to your period. It comes out at the start of your period to allow the rest of the blood/tissue from your uterus to be evacuated during your period.
