Professional help: is needed not to repeat again , possible substance abuse ( addition ) with local care those sores will heal , seeking help is more important than the sores he had. That means he had to see the doctor .

Go to the doc: The doc won't call the cops (unless your idiot husband tries to sell him some crystal meth). Docs are ethically obligated not to judge their patients but rather to help them stay healthy. On the other hand, having the doc agree with your assessment of your husband as an idiot may help discourage him from being an idiot again.
