Possible Pica?: ...is characterized by an appetite for substances that are largely non-nutritive, such as paper, clay, metal, chalk, soil, glass, sand, etc. Because pica can occur in people who have lower than normal nutrient levels & malnutrition, doctor may want to test levels of iron & zinc. Also seen with autism, schizophrenia, & disorders such as Kleine-Levin. Lots of other non-Pica possibilities to consider

He's thirsty: Many kids develop a drinking fetish.It is most common in the toddler years, but can persist.These kids drink during their wake periods but can sleep and travel distances.The selection is a personal choice.The pattern drives thirst because their kidneys get patterned to dilute urine.Decreasing the volume you give him gradually can slow this down.
