Skin to Skin Contact: Genital herpes simplex 2 is contracted by direct sexual contact (skin to skin) with someone who has previously been infected with genital herpes. They do not need to have visible lesions but can infect even when asymptomatic. Oral-genital contact can cause genital herpes due to hsv 1 spread from a contact that has had cold sores. Again asymptomatic shedding can cause spread with no visible sores.
