A member asked:

About how long before seeing herpes lesions do you start being contagious?like if you wake up with it how long had you been contagious leading up it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

NO easy answer: You are the most contagious when you have active, open lesions. However, carriers can be asymptomatic shedders, meaning you could pass it on without having any lesions. Talk with your doctor about ways to prevent transmission.
