What exactly does it mean when one lymph node becomes swollen and sore?

Usually infection: Infection in the node, or more commonly in the area draining into that node has an infection. However, tumors such as lymphoma may present as a single enlarged node. In either case you should see your doctor for an evlauation and treatment.
