? hemorrhage: Redness of the eye from a surface or conjunctival hemorrhage will not respond to topical agents and simply takes time to go away. These are harmless but they may take 3-4 weeks if they are heavy to begin with. They are distinguished from other causes of red eyes by the deep blood red color.
