When i reach to the back of my throat (past what i think is my epiglottis and behind it), i feel large bumps. when i touch them, i cough. is this norm?

Gag reflex & tonsils: Why are you reaching into the back of your throat? There is no need to do that and it could be harmful. The lumps you feel may be your tonsils, which are part of your immune system. You cough because you have a "gag reflex" which is an automatic way your body protects that very sensitive part of the body. You gag to prevent things getting into your throat that shouldn't: like your fingers.
