A member asked:

For what length of time do patients usually last after they start dialysis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

7-14 days: If a long time dialysis patient stops dialysis, not because of recovery of function, the average 10 days. Usually death occurs between 7-14 days. Some patients may live much longer if their native kidney function is still present and they eat a very restricted diet without protein or potassium and they manage their fluid well. The death from withdrawal of dialysis is usually peaceful.
