Yes: Spotting does occur periodically during some pregnancies, especially early on in 1st trimester, making it difficult to believe one's pregnant if there are no other symptoms until later on. Check out http://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancy-concerns/spotting-during-pregnancy/. Implantation spotting can also be mistaken for menstrual bleeding especially if irregular.
