A member asked:

Recently reduced keppra (levetiracetam) from 1000mg tid to 1000 mg bid, no seizures since reducing, if levels are subtherapeutic how effective are meds?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Subtherapeutic: Hi, most anti epileptic medications have a therapeutic ranges. If the medication is below that range it is still doing something, but it may not be enough to stop the problem. Take anti epileptic meds, most are ion channel blockers in the brain, any amount of medication will block some channels however you need to block a large number to stop a seizure. I. E. it is on a continuum.
