Albuterol expired: When medications get older they tend to loose potency over time. I would suggest getting a refill for the upcoming year as this medication is very useful during acute exacerbations of asthma. Would not want to have a sub-optimal/expired medication for emergency treatment if your daughter were to have worsening asthma.

Not recommended: Not quite. On a medication’s expiration date, a manufacturer and the government can no longer guarantee the drug is operating at 90% of its original potency. That’s not the kind of risk you want to be taking in asthma, where you need swift rescue from symptoms and where inability to achieve rescue is UNsafe. That’s the biggest reason to replace and why it’s not guaranteed to be safe.
