Costochondritis: It's quite likely that you've sustained a 'musculoskeletal' injury from coughing. This could cause the symptoms you describe-and if you press on the area, I suspect it would hurt more. Any pain in the left chest of course raises the possibility of heart trouble -but it seems you are relatively young and female (2 things that count in your favor regarding heart disease). If the pain is bad, see MD.
