Goals: We need to know your goals. If you are doing home LH testing it is likely that you are trying to conceive. The first half of the menstrual cycle varies in the number of days. The second half of the cycle is fairly consistent at about 14 days. When ovulation occurs a corpus luteum is produced. If pregnancy does not occur this will pass, hormone levels drops and the cycle comes.

Ovulation: Ovulation occurs on cycle length minus 14. In a 32 day cycle that would be day 18. Anything beyond a 32 day cycle carries the risk of not being a fertile cycle. Similary, if LH surge happens after day 18, the luteal phase (second half of the cycle) may not last the 14 days it is supposed to last to make the cycle a fertile one. Surgery to the ovaries may interfere with cycle stability temporarily.
