Don't worry: Petroleum jelly is quite safe to use. No concerns about it being expired (it doesn't ever really "go bad"). However, you may want to consider trying a less-greasy option, such as a water-based or silicone-based lubricant, which can be found anywhere condoms are sold. Water-soluble products include Astroglide, Slippery Stuff, and K-Y Jelly. Silicone-based lubricant: Pjur Eros.
