PERI MENOPAUSE: is a KNOWN clinical condition and may explain "hot flashes" (Estrogen DECREASING) at your age! There is SPECIFIC medication for such symptoms plus some decIsion making re: hormonal replacement! Make an appointment with you GYNECOLOGIST to DISCUSS your options and make it EARLIER rather than LATER...as you say you are "in excellent health" and this should continue!!!! Hope THIS HELPS! DR Z

Wide spectrum: There is a wide spectrum of medications available. Unfortunately, they all work to a more or lesser degree. A woman may have to go through several of them to see, which ones work best. Hormones do work best, but a gynecologist needs to take a meticulous history to determine whether they are safe to take.
