Passed out?: If a person is losing consciousness or has passed out, calling 911 for an ambulance is the safe thing to do. If person loses consciousness when coughing, laughing, or during some similar activity, and he gets it off and on, his primary doctor will likely refer him for cardiology and pulmonology evaluations. His heart may be slowing down so much that it causes fainting. Also, consider learning CPR.
