No: No, birth control pills will not prevent pregnancy if started after an unprotected encounter. Plan B (Emergency contraceptive pill) will. It is most effective if taken within 72 hours (3 days) of the encounter but still has effectiveness up to 5 days after. The longer the delay, the less effective it will be.
