I have a expired mirena (levonorgestrel) iud. it is the second one i have had & have never had a period with either one until today. is this normal with expired iud?

Hormone withdrawal: The purpose of the Levonorgestrel, the hormone that the shaft of the MIrena IUD is coated with, is to have women lighter menstrual periods. Some women do not have a period at all. When the levonorgestrel has worn off after approx. 5 years, that effect is gone, and women will experience hormone withdrawal bleedings.

Yes: All good things must end sometime!.(smile) You must renew your contraceptive method(s) as this expired IUD is no longer able to prevent pregnancy and the recent period documents its' failure.
