Postoperative Pain: This most likely is secondary to irritation from your recent surgery. What the irritant causing the pain is the question. It could be a number of things ranging from benign to serious. You need to contact your surgeon for evaluation. If you have a fever, shortness of breath or vomiting a trip to the ER is warranted.

Gas in abdomen: I am guessing you had the laparoscopic surgery. As part of the surgery gas (nitrogen) is pumped into the abdominal cavity to create a space within the abdomen so the surgeon can get to the appendix. This gas is released after the surgery but a small amount remains in the abdomen, and can push on the diaphragm. The body strangely interprets this as shoulder pain. Common complaint, should resolve.
