Function of Accutane: Accutane works by decreasing the number of cells in the skin, including the oil glands. That is the reason it decreases the acne as the skin dries up. After stopping Accutane, the skin will return to its old self in 6 months to a year and the oil production should increase also. Hope this helps.

Dose too low: For it to work you need to take an adequate dose 1 mg per kilo of. Weight .Ideally a 132 lb person. Should be on 60 mg.The minimum dose is a half a mg per kilo or 30 mg for 132 lb. This shoul be for. 15-20 weeks. If you need the Accutane because nothing else worked stick with it and get the benefit. Discuss this with your dermatologist.

I agree that dosage should be higher and need at least 3 months to see effect. It is a truly effective medication that can have side effects but with proper monitoring and follow up with your Dr., most people have excellent results that are worth the blood tests and dryness.

All acne medications take time to work, whether they are pills of creams. Be patient and wait a least a few months before you decide whether any acne treatment is working for you.

Very effective: Accutane is very effective for persistent or cystic acne. It is serious medication with many side effects which must be monitored by your dermatologist. For females, pregnancy must be avoided while taking the medication and for 3 months following its conclusion.

One idea: There's no cure for acne. A course of Accutane will usually keep it at bay for perhaps a year, and you can repeat as you need to. One remedy that many physicians do not know is a trial of spironolactone. Wishing you luck. It's important to continue treating your acne and be a proactive partner in your care.
