New sub-subtype: Generally, a new subtype of virus appears that people have little or no immunity or protection against. Because so many people are vulnerable, the virus spreads easily through sneezing or coughing if an airborne disease, or through intimate contact if a blood-borne disease. A disease that has been absent from a population for some time may also cause an outbreak.
