Sex addiction is mor: and more common and on the rise in women. Many causes include premature exposure to sexual stimuli too early in life, and internet availability. Four hallmarks of any addiction: Mood altering behavior, compulsive, causes damage to self or others and can't stop. Treatment is recognizing all the above in two venues--group support (AA, Smart Recovery) plus individual therapy.

When sexual: behavior is distressing, it’s important to explore the underlying reasons and treat whatever that might be, which can be many problems. I would suggest that anyone who is distressed by their sexual behavior have an evaluation by a psychiatrist or psychologist, such that they may seek therapy or medications for the issues that are distressing and driving the risky behavior. Please be safe.
