Does zopiclone or zopidem commonly cause any adverse effects? i need it just for a few days. i'm worried that it may affect my performance.

Different effects.: Insomnia medications effect people differently. Some people have no side effects whatsoever, while other people remain lethargic after waking. Unfortunately there is no way to predict how it will affect you. If it causes sleepiness after waking then you should talk to your doctor about decreasing your dose. I would not take it if your next day's performance includes operating machinery.
