Up to a week: Symptoms typically begin a few days after being bitten by an infected mosquito, and last for several days to a week. However, only about 1 out of 5 people who are infected with Zika virus will actually develop symptoms. Common symptoms are fever, rash, joint pain, conjunctivitis (red eyes), headache, and muscle aches. The illness is generally mild.
